Real-time, portable optical chemical sensing

Water quality problems currently affect nearly a billion people, and by 2050, water shortages are expected to affect over 50% of the global population – the integrity of both water quality and delivery networks are crucial.

Current methods of pesticide detection are bulky, costly and slow. The Lightwater Sensors detector is a low-cost real-time diagnostic system for both chemical species and for targeted analytes.

Founded by Dr Ross Gillanders in 2019, Lightwater Sensors has won the 2020 Converge Kickstart Challenge and the 2021 Scottish Wild Card EDGE awards.
